FAQs
At Harpenden Kids Nutrition, I understand that starting a nutritional therapy journey can bring up many questions and concerns. Every child is unique, and I tailor my approach to ensure the best possible outcomes for your family. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions parents ask about my approach and how we can support your child’s health and well-being.
What if my child refuses to take supplements?
This is a common concern, and there are many flexible approaches to make it easier, such as:
-
Tailoring supplement forms (powders, liquids, sprays, gummies, or lollipops).
-
Mixing supplements into familiar foods like smoothies or yogurt drinks.
-
Encouraging autonomy (letting your child choose their own pill box).
-
Using flexible schedules (e.g., taking supplements on weekdays only).
-
Adjusting as needed, including taking breaks or focusing on dietary changes instead.
How involved does my child need to be in the process?
I like to meet with children at least once to build rapport and ensure they feel comfortable with the process. After this initial meeting, I leave it up to the parents to decide how much their child participates. Some children attend every session, even if just for a few minutes to say hello and report how they're feeling, while others prefer to be involved only at the beginning, with parents managing the process from there. My approach is flexible, and I tailor it to what works best for each family.
My child has sensory sensitivities—how can we work around this?
I have experience supporting a wide range of children and adolescents, including those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). We take a patient and tailored approach, adjusting supplement forms, flavours, and textures to suit your child’s preferences. If needed, we can work solely through diet and lifestyle modifications.
How do you track progress?
We assess progress through regular check-ins and tracking key symptoms (these will be different for every child) such as anxiety levels, sleep quality, and mood stability. Each plan is personalised, and adjustments are made along the way to ensure the best outcomes for your child.
Can nutritional therapy help with anxiety and behavioural challenges?
Yes, many parents report significant improvements in their child’s mood, anxiety levels, and behaviour. Nutritional therapy can address underlying imbalances, such as nutrient deficiencies, helping to support emotional regulation and overall well-being.
What kind of results can we expect?
Every child is unique and we cannot guarantee results, but many families have seen transformative changes from reductions in OCD, to improvements in emotional regulation. Testimonials can be found on my homepage.
What if my child is resistant to change?
It is completely understandable that your child may be resistant to the introduction of something new. I take a no-pressure, gradual approach that respects your child’s needs and comfort level. We work together to find sustainable strategies that fit your family’s lifestyle.
How do I know if this is the right fit for my child?
Choosing the right support for your child is an important decision, and I want you to feel confident in your choice. Before committing, I offer a discovery call where we discuss your child’s unique needs, challenges, and goals. I will take the time to understand your concerns and explain how my approach works. My priority is to ensure that this process feels supportive, manageable, and beneficial for both you and your child.
